Breaking the Rules

This memory is a little fuzzy and I seem to only remember patches, but it's one of my favorite memories nonetheless. We were at the mall, and I can't remember everyone who was with us, but I know Bryan, Dad, and I split off while we were waiting on something (probably Mom? Lol!). I think Bryan and I must have been pretty whiny while we were bored and waiting because Dad was trying to get us to sit quietly like good kids do. We must have been no more than six or seven years old when this happened. The next thing I remember after being bored for what seemed like hours and hours is Bryan racing up the down escalator. I gasped and looked over at my Dad, sure that Bry was in big trouble! To my astonishment, Dad grabbed my hand and started running up the down escalator too! We were laughing so hard and waving at all of the people going up the normal way, trying to make our little legs move as fast as they would go. Pretty soon, a security guard walked over and told us we had to stop. Dad was the one in big trouble, though the guard was very nice and smiled like he hated to enforce the rules. I think the thing that made this so much fun for me was that Dad wasn't the authority making us behave. This one time, he was a co-conspirator.
